Private Cask I Buy your own cask of whiskey
Your private barrel
Have you always wanted to fulfill your dream of owning your own whiskey barrel? Then you are right with us! We offer you the opportunity to select your own and highly individual cask of whiskey yourself and to order it conveniently and securely online.
First, your private barrel of whiskey will be handcrafted by one of the best cooper in Germany and can be provided with a logo or lettering of your choice. Your barrel will then be filled with our New Make -rye (100% unmalted raw rye fruit). The distillate is mashed by hand in our distillery from regional rye and gently distilled in our copper stills. Finally, the freshly filled barrel can either be taken home for maturation or stored in the special microclimate of the biosphere reserve of the Spreewald, in the STORK CLUB distillery, and mature into a delicious whiskey.
After your cask has matured for 3 years, we adjust your whiskey to the desired drinking strength, filter it for you and fill it into 500ml or 700ml bottles.
For quality reasons, we only offer 50l barrels as private barrels. With this size and the storage period of 3 years, we have achieved the best taste results in long series of tests. At the same time, a manageable angel's share (loss through evaporation) of only approx. 8% per year is achieved.
The wooden barrel and the so-called pre-allocation are the dominant aroma factor in whiskey and account for about 70% of the subsequent taste.
We would also be happy to give you individual advice on your ideal private keg! Simply fill out the form below or contact us by email:order@stork-club-whiskey.com. Please also read the FAQ and our terms and conditions before purchasing!
frequently asked Questions
Buying a Private Cask
Our configurator offers you the opportunity to select your own and highly individual cask of whiskey and to order it conveniently and securely online. If you have any questions during the ordering process, you can of course contact us at any time. Your contact person is Bastian Heuser (bestellung@spreewood-distillers.com).
If you feel uncomfortable making such an investment online, that's no problem either. Simply send us your keg configuration as a web link and we will create your offer based on it.
After the purchase you will receive an invoice that meets all accounting requirements. Please understand that we will not commission your Private Cask until the invoice amount has been paid.
personalization
You have the option to personalize your keg. We will laser your company logo or your name on the front of the barrel for free!
Please note that we can only offer this service when you place an order. Such a refinement is no longer possible after the barrel has been filled.
Please send us the file to be lasered as a PDF.
Capacity barrels
Please note that the barrels used are not calibrated. The communicated filling quantities of the barrels are approximate and can deviate by a few hundred milliliters.
storage and insurance
We store your barrel in our warehouses in the Spreewald with its unique microclimate. The price includes 3 years storage time. Longer storage times are possible for a surcharge. Your cask is insured with us during the storage period.
According to EU regulations, whiskey produced in Europe may only be called whiskey in Europe if it has been stored in oak casks for at least 3 years. Recognizing this, we mature your whiskey in our warehouses for a minimum of 3 years. The smaller the cask you choose, the more the distillate interacts with the wood of the cask. The distillates mature “faster” this way. Overripening is also possible, especially when selecting new barrels without pre-assignment. We therefore recommend that you choose a maximum aging of 3 years for barrels with a capacity of 50 liters.
barrel visits
You want to visit your barrel? No problem! Please contact us at least 14 days in advance to arrange an individual appointment. Since we have ongoing operations, we ask for your understanding that we cannot meet every appointment request.
barrel samples
You will receive a 20ml sample of your keg once a year. This "taste" is included in the price of the barrel. The tasting gives you the opportunity to experience the development of the distillate in your cask! Larger barrel samples are unfortunately not possible for customs reasons.
alcohol strength
We fill your barrel with distillates that have approx. 60% alcohol by volume. Due to the individual nature of the warehouses and the general weather conditions, either a higher proportion of water in the distillate evaporates over time (the alcohol content increases over the years) or a higher proportion of alcohol in the distillate (the alcohol content decreases). Neither the one nor the other is better or worse per se, it is simply "different". Whiskey is and will always be a natural product!
Angel's share
The "Angel's Share" generally refers to the evaporation of the distillate in the casks over a certain period of time. In our warehouses, we expect an angel's share of around 4-8%. What does that mean for your barrel? Even if we fill your cask with e.g. 50 liters of raw distillate, you will have at least 12-24% less in the cask after three years. We didn't just lay down under your barrel on a happy, damp evening, but this amount evaporated through contact with the barrel and the exchange with the air.
The following also applies: the smaller the barrel, the higher the Angel's Share, since the distillate/wood surface ratio is exponentially greater than in large casks. Please note that we therefore do not guarantee how much whiskey is left in the cask after the aging period. The brandy tax is included with us!
invoice
After placing your order, you will receive an invoice that meets all accounting requirements. Please understand that we will not commission your Private Cask until the invoice amount has been paid.
bottling
We are happy to fill your keg into bottles after the storage time as desired (500ml or 700ml, unfiltered and at cask strength or filtered and reduced to your desired drinking strength). This service is included in our price.
If you want to store your keg at home, however, we can no longer offer you subsequent bottling, filtration or adjustment of the alcohol content.
ATTENTION: not included is the label as well as the labeling. If you wish that, please contact us in good time before your barrel is "ripe"! We would be happy to make you an individual offer.
Steer
The brandy tax is included in the purchase and storage of at least 3 years until bottling in our warehouses. If you want to store your keg at home, we will also pay the spirits tax for you in this case.
